This course provides theory and clinical experiences needed for the proper collection of blood and other specimens used for diagnostic testing.

Emphasis is placed on ethics, legalities, medical terminology, safety and universal precautions, health care delivery systems, patient relations, anatomy and physiology, and specimen collection.

Upon completion, students should be able to safely perform procedures necessary for specimen collections on patients in various health care settings and may be eligible for national certification as phlebotomy technicians.

CFCC’s Phlebotomy program is approved by the National Accreditation Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.

Phlebotomists are healthcare professionals who draw blood samples from patients or donors.

You will be prepared to handle and process blood for lab tests, transfusions, research or donations.

You will be a vital member of the clinical lab team who performs clinical, technical, and clerical functions.

Upon completion of this class, you will be prepared to take the ASCP or NHA certification exam and work in physician offices, blood donation clinics, diagnostic labs, insurance companies, or as a traveling phlebotomist.

Tuition fee for the phlebotomy program costs 200 USD.

Other program costs in addition to registration and parking fee include books at 150 USD, scrubs royal blue at 100 USD, drug screen and criminal background check  at 95 USD, CPR course (varies), and national registry exam at 135 USD.

Wake Technical Community College

Courses Offered

Wake Tech offers a 16-week program that will train you to be a phlebotomist.

You will receive intense, individualized phlebotomy training in theory and skills and complete a psychology course the first eight weeks of the semester.

During the second eight weeks, you will actually practice phlebotomy in hospital and clinic settings supervised by highly skilled professionals.

Upon successful completion of the program, you will be eligible to take the Phlebotomy examination given by the American Society for Clinical Pathology’s Board of Certification.

The phlebotomy program is not covered by financial aid.

However, if accepted, you can apply for financial assistance after orientation.
